Oslo is beautifully situated at the head of the Oslo Fjord (Oslofjorden in Norwegian) and is surrounded by forested hills. It’s a stunning city, and the best way to appreciate its beauty is on a relaxing sightseeing cruise. On this two-hour tour, discover the scenery from a sightseeing boat. You’ll sail past numerous islands, including Hovedøya and the Dyna Lighthouse, through narrow inlets and into sheltered bays so that you can capture the capital on camera from different angles. We will pass the Opera House in Oslo, housing The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet ensemble. The spot has been named Kirsten Flagstads place 1 after the opera's first director Kirsten Flagstad place 1 after the opera's first director Kirsten Flagstad. It was designed by the architectural firm Snøhetta AS, which won an architectural competition in 2000.
  • The Opera House of Oslo opened in April 2008 and was designed by the Norwegian Architect office “Snøhetta”, whose offices we just passed. The opera has been built to look like a glacier, and the main construction material is Italian carrara marble. The roof is open to the public, and taking a walk on top of the building has become a popular activity. It is possible to take a guided tour through some of its 1100 rooms, eat at one of its two restaurants and of course to attend its shows and concerts. (pass by)
  • Up on the hill, on the left-hand side of the boat, you can see the Akershus fortress. It dated back to around 1300 AD and was originally built, by king Haakon V of Norway, as a medieval castle. In the first half of the 17th century, it was remodeled by King Christian IV of Norway and Denmark. He turned Akershus into a renaissance castle, which is the appearance it still has today. The outdoor areas of the fortress are open to the public, and by the fortress you can also find the Museum of Armed Forces, the Norwegian Resistance Museum, and the Royal Mausoleum. From the fortress restaurant, which was originally built as a prison in 1836, you can also enjoy a front-row view over the Oslo fjord. (pass by)
