Wat Mahathat is believed to be one of Ayutthaya's oldest temples. Wat Phra Sri Sanphet was the most important temple in the Ayutthaya Kingdom, located inside the compound of the Grand Palace. This temple was exclusively used by members of the royal family and used for royal ceremonies. Its three distinctive chedis which have been restored contain the ashes of three Ayutthaya kings.
