Tungnaárfellsfoss is a quite broad waterfall in the Tungnaá river, central Iceland. It is in pristine nature therefore here you can inhale the pure Icelandic nature. And you´ll be probably here completely alone. Tungnaárfellsfoss can be your stop/walking detour on your way to Landmannalaugar.
-
HjalparfossHjálparfoss or the “Help’s Falls” is located in Þjórsárdalur valley, just north of one of the most active volcanos in Iceland, Hekla. The waterfall runs from the river Fossá that merges with Þjórsá, Iceland’s longest river, not far from the waterfall. Hjálparfoss is a beautiful, two-stepped waterfall that cascades down into a large plunge pool that is surrounded by very unique basalt rock formations. The waterfall is located about 30 km from the town Flúðir and it takes about 2 hours drive from Reykjavik. Þjófafoss and Háifoss are not far from Hjálparfoss.
-
Thjodveldisbaerinn StongAt Stong in Thjorsarsalur valley in South Iceland, you can see the Thjodveldisbaer, a reconstructed Viking turf house based on the ruins of the old manor farm Stong. The ruins themselves are well preserved and were closely followed during the reconstruction to give as fair a representation of the abode of the chieftains of the saga age as possible.
-
ThjofafossÞjófafoss or “thief falls” runs in the river Þjórsá, the longest river in Iceland, and is located in the middle of Merkurhraun lava field in the south of Iceland. Legend has it, as the name of the waterfall indicates, that thieves were drowned there for their crimes back in the days.
-
GjainA breathtakingly beautiful place lies hidden away in Þjórsárdalur valley upcountry in South-Iceland. It is called Gjáin and is for sure one of Iceland's pearls of nature. It is a delicate beauty, which we have to preserve and treat with utter respect. Rauðá river (Red River) runs through here. A lovely waterfall in the river, Gjárfoss falls cascades into the gorge of Gjáin. It is small, but ever so beautifully framed by the surroundings.
-
SigoldugljufurSigöldugljúfur canyon is a fascinating small canyon deep in the Icelandic highlands. It is quite exceptional with its many small waterfalls, blue river, and colorful vegetation. A beautiful canyon that is almost magical and could easily be a scene in an adventure story or a Sci-Fi movie
-
Sigoldufoss or Sigöldufoss is a nice waterfall in the south of Iceland. Sigoldufoss is a 10-meter high waterfall in the river Tungnaá.
-
HaifossHáifoss, which is 122 meters high is situated in Fossá river, which is a spring water tributary of the glacial river Þjórsá, Iceland's longest river.
