Overview
Koh Ker, also known as Prasat Kaôh Ké, is a significant archaeological site located approximately 90 kilometers from Siem Reap and Angkor. This remote area is densely forested and sparsely populated.
- 🌳 Over 180 sanctuaries are found within an 81 square kilometer protected area.
- 🏛️ Only about two dozen monuments are accessible to tourists due to many sanctuaries being concealed in the jungle.
- ⚠️ The entire region is not fully demined, so caution is advised when exploring.
- 📜 Koh Ker was once an important city of the Khmer empire, referred to in inscriptions as Lingapura (city of lingams).

Koh Ker TempleKoh Ker is a 10th-century temple complex in the north Cambodian jungle. A former capital of the Khmer Empire, the site is now remote and heavily forested. The main structure, Koh Ker Temple, is a stepped 7-tiered pyramid. The large rectangular tank, Rahal Baray, supplied water to the complex. The Prasat Krahom, meaning "red temple," is known for its sandstone carvings, while Prasat Pram is covered in strangler figs.
-
Very beautiful, an amazing masterpiece that to some extent lucky enough to survive to remain the main structure amidst recent vandalism right after the civil war. Though its stones are black which may cause by natural heat, one can still find this place attractive n peaceful to relax.
-
This is one of my favorite temples in Cambodia. Not only is it really beautiful, but its remoteness and serenity are also awe-inspiring. Like Ta Phrom, trees have grown in and around the shrines adding a romantic feel to the place.
-
Nice big linga, in relatively good condition. Water hole on the side of the temple is still intact
-
Another beautiful temple located just opposite to Prasat Thom Which is the pyramid temple at Koh Ker.
-
Part of Koh Ker group of temples. Really worth a short stop if you are visiting the main Pyramid temple.
