The famous Venetian Castle is a major landmark of the village. Also known as the Castle of St Nikolas, the 15th-century castle was constructed during the Venetian occupation. Its location is the reason it constitutes one of the most popular places to watch the sunset in the entire Aegean Sea. The Pyrgos Kallistis, such as the full name of the village is meaning the most beautiful tower, is the old capital of the island and the newest castle of the Kasteli (castle cities built during the 15th and 16th century).
