Overview

Lower Manhattan IS American History! This is where the original Dutch colony of New Amsterdam was. The first Capital of the United States of America was here, Washington took office as our first President here, mere blocks from where the last British troops left America just six years earlier.
The Financial Heart of not only the country, but of the world is in Lower Manhattan as well as the world's largest gold supply. The world watched in horror as the twin towers were attacked and fell on September 11, 2001.
I am a native New Yorker; I was a stock trader who worked here for 20 years. I was in Manhattan on Sept. 11. I have long loved sharing the history of this amazing island and with me, you won't get a tour guide going through the paces, you'll get a true native sharing oral histories of one of the most amazing places on earth.

  • St. Paul's Chapel
Our tour starts at St. Paul's which was the church Washington worshipped at when he was a resident of New York. The church survived the attacks at The World Trade Center became an R&R center for first responders working at the site after the attacks.
  • The Oculus
An amazing structure built as part of the recovery after the attacks; The Oculus is beautiful inside and out. Built to resemble a bird in flight, the exterior of the building belies the enormous subterranean space, as underground at The Oculus is a massive transportation center and a shopping mall housing over 60 stores inside a sun-drenched 160-foot-tall hall.
  • The National 9/11 Memorial & Museum
At the National 9/11 Memorial I'll give you a history of the World Trade Center, the events of 9/11 and explain The Memorial design. I'll share some of the poignant 9/11 stories and show you the names of some of the heroes at their spots on The Memorial.
  • FDNY Memorial Wall
A beautiful memorial in bronze relief on the wall of "10 House" where FDNY Engine 10 and Ladder 10 are based. The closest firehouse to the World Trade Center, they were the first to respond on 9/11 and lost six of their members.
  • NYC Guide Pro
At the National 9/11 Memorial your tour guide will give you a history of the World Trade Center, the events of 9/11 and explain The Memorial design. They will share poignant 9/11 stories of two heroes and take you to their spots on the wall.
  • We'll see the building that keeps more gold than any other building in the world and is the key bank in the Federal Reserve which determines US monetary policy. (pass by)
  • Federal Hall
Fronted by the iconic statue of George Washington, Federal Hall is the site of some of the most important moments in American history. It was where the Confederation Congress met after the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The First Congress met there and ratified the Bill of Rights. Washington was inaugurated on the steps of the building, and the first United State Supreme Court was housed here as well. We'll tour in inside of the hall and you'll have a photo-op with President Washington.
  • Wall Street
"Wall Street" - the term is synonymous with the entire financial world. What many people don't realize is how steeped in American history this relatively small - just eight blocks - street is. We'll see it all.
  • Trinity Church NYC
This beautiful church, and its two predecessors, have witnessed - and participated in - American history since pre-colonial times. We'll see the inside of the church as well as the churchyard where famous Americans, including Alexander Hamilton, are interred.
  • Canyon of Heroes
This is the section of Broadway stretching from The Battery to City Hall, where New Yorkers celebrate their heroes with tickertape parades. Every parade every held has a market inlaid into the sidewalk beginning with the Dedication of the Statue of Liberty. The list reads like a Who's Who of 19th-21st Century history and you'll find yourself - despite the hustle and bustle around you - reading the name beneath your feet as we move along.
  • Charging Bull
No tour of The Financial District would be complete without seeing The Charging Bull. Should you choose, you'll have the chance to lineup and take a picture with The Charging Bull (at either end!).
  • A stately Beaux-Arts building at the foot of Broadway, originally the United State Custom House and now home to the Museum of the American Indian. Four statues designed by Daniel Chester French (who designed Lincoln's statue at the Lincoln Memorial) depicting the continents grace the front of the building. (pass by)
  • A unique carousel with sea creatures instead of the standard horses. (pass by)
  • Battery Park
This park at the southern tip of Manhattan offers stunning views of New York Harbor, the Verrazzano Bridge and the Statue of Liberty.
  • Castle Clinton National Monument
Our tour concludes at Castle Clinton. Before the expansion of Manhattan, this fort sat in the harbor guarding the tip of the island against invaders coming into the harbor. It's vantage point kept watch over the mouths of the Hudson and East Rivers. Alexander Hamilton commanded a battery here during the Revolutionary War. Before the opening of Ellis Island, it became the main processing point for immigrants entering the United States through New York and an estimated 10 million people gained entry here.
