Meryemana (The Virgin Mary's House)Next, you will visit the House of the Virgin Mary. Upon arrival, you will be captivated by the natural beauty surrounding this monument. Located on the Aladag Mountains, 5 miles from Ephesus, it is believed that Mary came to Ephesus with St. John in 37 A.D. and lived there until her death in 48 A.D., a claim made during the Third Ecumenical Council in 431 A.D. After its discovery, the Archbishop of Izmir declared it a place of pilgrimage in 1892. Pope Paul VI also visited and prayed at the site on July 26, 1967.

- This picturesque Byzantine fortress, a small castle standing on the causeway-connected Guvercin Adasi (Pigeon Island), has recently undergone renovations.
