The pond’s still waters are low in oxygen and rich in minerals, caused by iron bacteria oxidizing dissolved iron, tannins from decaying leaves, and other organic matter. Some experts believe it may also result from algae blooms or mineral-rich soil leaks beneath the surface. Despite its lack of aquatic life, the pond’s vivid color and still beauty make it a must-see.
