Overview
Eat your way through San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter in two hours: pork, chicken and veggie lumpia, a Baja fish taco, a cheesy Meltburger and homemade ice cream. Four stops, enough for lunch, max 15 guests, with local history between every bite.
Each stop tells part of how San Diego came to eat the way it does. Navy service brought Filipino families here, and today Filipino Americans are the city’s largest Asian American group. The border put tacos at the center of the city’s food.
Between stops, your guide covers the Gaslamp’s past, from its rowdy Stingaree days to the restored Victorian blocks you’re walking through. Our guides are the same storytellers behind Fable’s Gaslamp history and ghost tours, and they’ll share local tips for your trip.
The route is under a mile on flat sidewalks and works for all ages, strollers and wheelchairs. It runs rain or shine, with no minimum group size, and ends with a scoop at family-owned Cali Cream.

Start with a sampling of crispy Filipino lumpia, fried spring rolls filled with pork, chicken and vegetables, at downtown's Filipino pulutan (bar-snack) spot. You'll have a Baja fish taco topped with chipotle salsa while your guide tells how it crossed the border: the fish taco was born in Baja California, and San Diego student Ralph Rubio brought it north in 1983.

Angus and Wagyu beef chopped on the grill with aged cheddar melted right into it, from a California burger counter founded in San Francisco in 2011. Tasting: half a Meltburger.

Finish with a scoop at family-owned Cali Cream, a San Diego original since 2016. It makes 55 to 70 flavors in-house every day, including vegan options. The tour ends here, at 425 Market St.
