Your guide will be the one who gave you all the information during the walk, he will also take you to the most prominent squares to show you in detail everything related to the Mayan civilization. The Tikal archaeological site has about 5,000 pre-Hispanic buildings in an area of approximately 16 km2, of which only 15% is restored and enabled for exploration. The residential area of Tikal covers approximately 60 km2, much of which has not yet been cleared, mapped or excavated. The city represents an ancient Mayan capital that dominated a vast territory during the Classic period.
  • Great Plaza
The Grand Square of Tikal and its surroundings constitute the best of Tikal, made up of central acropolises that are residential or administrative ensembles, as well as a game of Mayan ball in smaller dimensions. Above the northern area is a row of sculpted stelae and altars containing much of the dynastic sequence of Tikal. Also, there is a set of ceremonial buildings, which functioned as mausoleums of the ruling families . Just in the main square you can climb Temple 2 or the masks with 38 meters high, to face from the top to the temple of the Great Jaguar. The strong saucer is just heading east, in the large square the Temple of the Great Jaguar with 45 meters high the icon of Tikal.
  • Temple I
Temple of the Great Jaguar or Temple I, is the designation given to one of the main structures of Tikal, Temple I served as a ceremonial and ritual place, considered the door to the underworld, the remains of the Ruler Hasaw Chaan Kawil were found within said construction.
  • Tikal Temple III
The Temple of the High Priest, or Temple III, is a funeral-ceremonial temple, which was built in 810 AD, a building that is part of the largest city of the late Classic Mayan period, its construction was supervised by King Nu Bak Chak II, known as “Dark Sun”.
  • Temple IV
The pyramid was built around 741 AD to commemorate the reign of the 27th king of the Tikal dynasty, Yik'in Chan K'awiil, although it may have been built after his death as his burial temple. Archaeologists believe that the tomb of Yik'in Chan K'awiil lies undiscovered somewhere beneath the temple. The sanctuary on the top faces east to the core of the site, with Temple III visible directly in front and Temple I and Temple II.
  • Lost World
The Lost World is the largest ceremonial complex in the preclassic of the great Mayan city of Tikal. The complex was organized as a large astronomical complex ("Set E") and is composed of a pyramid aligned with an eastward platform that forms the basis for three temples. Throughout its history the Lost World complex was rebuilt several times. By the 250s-300s AD, his architectural style was influenced by the city of Teotihuacán in the valley of Mexico and included the use of the slope-board style. During the Early Classic period (c. 250–600), the Lost World became one of the city's two focal points, the other being the North Acropolis. From 250 to 378 AD it may have served as a royal necropolis. The Lost World complex was named for archaeologists at the University of Pennsylvania.
