Overview
The Khor Virap Monastery and Garni Temple offer a glimpse into Armenia's rich history and cultural heritage. Situated near the Turkish-Armenian border, these landmarks provide unique experiences for visitors.
- 🚐 An hour drive leads to Khor Virap Monastery, located in the Ararat plain, about 100 meters from the sealed Turkish-Armenian border, defended by Russian military establishments.
- ⛪ Our first stop is Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage site carved into rock that houses one of Christianity's most cherished relics.
- 🍽️ Lunch is served at a family restaurant in Garni village, where you can taste lavash, a flatbread made in a tandoor.
- 🏛️ Visit Garni Temple, a first-century A.D. Graeco-Roman pagan temple likely devoted to Mithra; impromptu choral concerts may be performed by Armenian visitors.
