Pigeon Island, designated as a Sanctuary in 1963 and as a National Park since 2003, is one of the best snorkeling spots on Sri Lanka's east coast. About 1 km from Nilaveli Beach, it is named after the Rock Pigeons that live here, and consists of two unique islands.
