  • Plaza Independencia
Plaza Independencia is the main square in Montevideo, Uruguay. Located in the city center, it occupies the space where the old Citadel was located and houses the monument and mausoleum of José Gervasio Artigas, national hero and procer of independence.
  • Teatro Solis
The Teatro Solis is an opera house in the historical centre of the city of Montevideo. Its work began in 1842 — just 17 years after Uruguay's independence — and was inaugurated in 1856. It is the oldest theater in South America and the most important in the country, with a capacity for 1500 spectators in its main hall.
  • Puerta de la Ciudadela
The Puerta de la Ciudadela was the gateway to the Citadel of Montevideo, a large military fortress built by the Spanish for the ground defense of the walled city of Montevideo during the 18th century and located where Independence Square is today.
  • Peatonal Sarandi
The Sarandí Pedestrian Street is a pedestrian street located in the Old City of Montevideo, the historic center of the capital of Uruguay. It is the main thoroughfare of the neighborhood and an important tourist space of the city.
  • Plaza Matriz
Plaza de la Constitución or Plaza Matriz is located in the city of Montevideo, Uruguay, in the center of the historic quarter of the Old City. It was the Plaza Mayor of the fortress city of San Felipe and Santiago de Montevideo, where it was the only open public space conceived as such. Its location and layout largely violated the provisions of the Laws of the Indies. It is one of the places with the greatest movement of tourists and cultural spaces in the entire city of Montevideo.
  • Catedral de Montevideo
The Metropolitan Basilica Cathedral is the main Catholic temple in Montevideo. It is located in the Old City, opposite the Plaza Constitución or Plaza Matriz, named precisely because the Cathedral is the Matrix Church. It has been listed as a National Historic Landmark since 1975. Its origins date back to Viceroyal times, when in 1740 a brick church was built on the site of the cathedral. Subsequently, in 1790, the foundation stone was laid to begin construction of the new building which is neoclassical in style. Finally the temple was consecrated in 1804.
  • Plaza Zabala
Zabala Square is a public space located in the Old City of Montevideo. Opened in December 1890, it was named after the Spanish soldier Bruno Mauricio de Zabala, founder of the city. It is arranged obliquely, which alters the perfect damero that characterizes the historic neighborhood. It was designed by the French landscape designer Édouard-François André, who drew inspiration from the European gardens of the beautiful era.
  • Mercado del Puerto
The Port Market is a gastronomic and cultural walk in Montevideo. It was inaugurated on October 10, 1868 as a market supplier of fruits, vegetables and meats to the ships that arrived at the Montevideo Bay and to the wealthy families that then erected their mansions in the surrounding area. The fruit shops, greengrocers and butchers became, over the years, the famous and minted places of food and drinks.
