The fishermen would lift four large stones, with weights ranging from 23kg to 155kg, to show their strength. These stones, known as the "Lifting Stones," are still on the beach today and visitors can try to lift them as well. The black pebbles that cover the beach were formed by volcanic activity, and the beach also boasts impressive rock formations and sea cliffs. One of the most iconic rock formations on Djúpalónssandur is the "Drangurinn" or "The Rock."
