Our food tour will start at the central square of the city of Zagreb. While the square's official name is Ban Jelačić Square, locals call it Jelačić plac. It is located right below the old city cores called Kaptol and Gradec. In the 17th century the square was called Harmica, and it was used as a marketplace for the entire town. Today it's the heart of the city and most of the major events in Zagreb happen at Ban Jelačić Square.
-
After a very brief walk we will arrive at the European square. The square is overlooked by the cathedral and it often hosts outdoor events, such as craft markets and DJ sets. At the square you will be able to view a miniature model of the city of Zagreb, with all its major locations and streets.
-
Our first restaurant will give you a chance to taste a cold appetizer that is based in the Istrian region. You will learn about the wonderful region of Istra, their culinary customs. In the meantime you will taste their wine and a region specific cold dish.
-
We will continue our walk to the Dolac Market, a farmers market that has been one of the most visited locations in the entire city since 1930. It is a farmers market that holds a deep historical and cultural importance to Zagreb and Croatia in general. Dolac is a combination of a more traditional open market and a sheltered market right beside it.
-
Our second restaurant will offer you a chance to taste warm appetizers from the region of Zagreb. These regional dishes and drinks will certainly fill your belly and make the rest of the tour more enjoyable.
-
Tkalciceva StreetNext we will pass through the most vibrant street in Zagreb. Tkalčićeva street is a perfect way to get introduced to the colorful locals of Zagreb, it is a combination of the past and present of Zagreb. We will pass next to countless cafes, smaller restaurants, traditional shops and boutiques.
-
The Stone Gates are the next location we will visit and it is one of the most important monuments in Zagreb. A place that served as a defense system for Zagreb in the 13th century is now an oath site. The Stone Gate is often visited by people of faith to pray and light candles. The gates truly create a serene atmosphere for all visitors who pass through.
-
The next stop on our journey will be the Zagreb Cathedral. It is a Roman Catholic church that is the second tallest building in Croatia. The Cathedral is created in the Gothic style and its awe inspiring architecture is impossible to ignore, especially its two spires that can be seen from various parts of the city. The cathedral also has a treasury that houses various important religious documents and items.
-
The next stop is the Saint Marks Square, located in the old town of Zagreb. The square shares a name with a church and it also is the location of the Croatian parliament.
-
We will then pass one of the symbols of Zagreb, a formidable defense tower from long ago. It is located in Gradec and it's one of the last remnants of the city's ancient defense system.
-
On our way to the third restaurant we will pass the worlds shortest funicular ride, the Uspinjača stairs. It is the first form of public transportation in Zagreb and the world in general.
-
This will lead us to the iconic Strossmayer promenade where you can enjoy the best panoramic views of Zagreb. Soak up its romantic vibes while taking the best pictures imaginable.
-
At the third restaurant on the tour you will get to experience a main dish specific to the regions of Zagreb and Zagorje. You will learn about the culinary culture of the city and the country of Croatia itself. After the restaurant we will pass through Tunnel Grič located in the city center. Grič in general is a very historic part of Zagreb. The tunnel has a central hall and two passageways. It was built during World War 2 and before being a pedestrian tunnel it was a bomb shelter and a promenade.
-
Krvavi MostThe Bloody Bridge is an infamous street that will lead us to the final restaurant of the day. This street was given that name because of the countless conflicts that happened between the two small cities Kaptol and Gradec. These two cities were later formed into Zagreb itself. While the Bloody bridge is a small street, it held many epic battles between the two cities.
-
Our final destination of the day will offer you a chance to taste a delicious regional dessert that will remain a surprise. You will also taste several regional wines specifically used for desserts.
