Overview
Travelers looking to learn more about the grave moments in Indian history will find a trove of incredible exhibitions and information in the Partition Museum of Amritsar Jallianwala Bagh and Wagah Border. This tour will be a 7 hour journey into the events of 1947, when the events of India's division of that year caused a ripple of shocking and somber moments in its history. Following this, you head to Jallianwala Bagh, a public garden with a somber history. This garden was made to commemorate the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre that took place right in Amritsar, when troops of the British army cut down participants of a peaceful protest. Although it happens daily, the Wagah Beating Retreat Border ceremony remains moving as a testament of history, culture, and international relations between India and Pakistan. In the ceremony, you will watch the soldiers of two nations put on a show of sorts, with the lowering of both flags and a handshake between two nations.

Wagah BorderEvery evening, just before the sunset, the soldiers from the Indian and Pakistan military meet at this border post to engage in a 30-minute display of military camaraderie and showmanship. Officially, the purpose of the ceremony is to formally close the border for the night and lower the national flag. However, it is an entertainment ceremony and a display of national pride for the thousands of people who come here every day. During the build-up to the ceremony, the crowd engages in chanting the Indian national anthem, rounds of applause and Bollywood-style dancing on Hindi songs.
