California LighthouseThe California Lighthouse, commonly referred to by locals as Faro, rises prominently on a limestone plateau at Hudishibana, near Arashi Beach and the Sasariwichi dunes on Aruba’s northwestern coast. It is recognized as the tallest structure on the island. The lighthouse takes its name from the British steamship S.S. California, which sank in 1891—more than two decades before the lighthouse was constructed between 1914 and 1916. Its construction served as a safeguard to prevent similar maritime accidents. In May 2016, the lighthouse was fully restored in honor of its 100th anniversary.
