Overview

The tour will start at the open-air documentation on Bernauer Strasse, where the wide swath of the deadly border strip is kept visible over a length of more than 1 km. You'll thus find out how the Wall was built, how the border facilities were expanded and how the Wall fell. In addition to the political background of the time, you will be showen authentic locations of spectacular escapes from the wall, successful tunnel escapes and failed escape attempts too. Thanks to this experience, you will also see the legendary "Palace of Tears" at the former border crossing in Friedrichstraße station, which today also houses a documentation center. The tour will end at Checkpoint Charlie. There you will find the Wall Museum and an exhibition on the Cold War, which you will eventually be able to visit independently.
