The story of Luwak coffee itself dates back to the 18th century during the Dutch colonial era. Indonesian farmers, prohibited from harvesting their own coffee for personal use, discovered that the Asian palm civet consumed the ripe coffee cherries and left the beans undigested. The farmers collected these beans from the civet droppings, cleaned them, and made their own coffee. To their surprise, the resulting brew was distinctively smooth and aromatic, thanks to the natural fermentation process in the civet's stomach. Over time, Luwak coffee gained popularity, and plantations like Cantik Agriculture emerged to showcase this prized local specialty. They have refined the process to ensure ethical treatment of the civets and the utmost quality of the coffee.
