Villa MayerVilla Mayer, a building of the Municipality of Šoštanj, is a typical example of the bourgeois architecture of late historicism. It was built around the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. It was built by lawyer dr. Fran Mayer, who served as mayor of Šoštanj between the wars. The Municipality of Šoštanj has owned the villa since 2002 when it was renovated in 2009 and permanent collections of cultural heritage were established in the public domain.

With industrial revolution this craft slowly grew to become an industry rather than just a craft and become an important industrial sector of the first half of the 20th century. However, due to crisis that hit leather industry in the send half of the previous century, majority of leather industries ceased to operate.
