Overview
Auschwitz-Birkenau - the largest concentration and extermination camp founded by the Nazi Germans, established in 1940, is a reminder of what happened in Europe during World War II. After the visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau or before it (the sequence varies depending on a particular day), head to Wieliczka Salt Mine. See carvings made out of the salt, sculptures, reliefs, chandeliers and chapels. This place is on the UNESCO World Heritage List; it teaches about the work of miners. There are 800 steps to take down (however, there are stops on the way and handrails), and after the visit, a lift brings you up.
