Located just a 15-minute drive from the city center, Lion’s Head is easily accessible. Lion's Head summit is reachable in approximately 90 minutes. With Table Mountain as its dramatic backdrop, the mountain lies within one of the smallest yet richest floral kingdoms in the world.
Hiking Lion’s Head at sunset/sunrise is a cherished Capetonian tradition, when the evening sun bathes the ocean and coastline in a golden glow, creating a warm and tranquil atmosphere. The most iconic sight of Cape Town is from the summit of Lion's Head with an Incredible 360 degrees views.
The trail going up Lion’s head is a screw top you’ll be circling the mountain getting to the top getting views in all directions. At one point the path gives way to rough ground and you have to step up using your hands to scramble over rocks. You will then continue steeply upwards to the first ladder, before traversing left along a shelf with a chain handrail. Next, you will continue until you reach a fork, where you will have the choices to veer left to circumnavigate two rock pitches or to turn right up the rock pitches via two ladders. . If you are not into vertical rock steps simply continue left, from where you can carry on with the path to gain the crest of the southeast ridge. The upper section near the top, the hike turns into a short scramble with the last ladder to the 669-meter summit. At the summit one has a 360 degree view of Cape Town it is one of the three iconic peaks that frame the city. It has Table Mountain as its backdrop. Then little by little, the city lights will turn off/on to offer a new sight for our way down you will be provided with a headlamp.
