Overview
Eat your way through six kitchens on four continents in under a mile and a half, then find out why a garrison town of limestone walls and 1840s shopfronts hides this much cooking behind unmarked doors. You'll try a Montreal-style bagel, hand-rolled and honey-boiled before it meets the oven, steamed Himalayan dumplings from a family kitchen on Princess Street, a fried lentil doughnut sunk in South Indian sambar, extra virgin olive oil poured side by side with small-batch balsamic, and ice cream from a counter scooping since 1986. Then there's the stop we won't name until you're standing outside it.
Your Secret Food Tours guide lives in Kingston, and knows which unassuming door hides the best cooking in town, why this city of 130,000 holds more Feast On certified restaurants than anywhere else in Ontario, and how a 19th-century market square still feeds the people who cook here.

-
Our meeting point. Built in 1901 and 1902 on the site of Martin's Opera House, which burned down in 1898, and home to the Kingston Symphony since 1964.
-
The spine of the tour. Downtown Kingston's main retail street, lined with 19th-century limestone shopfronts, and known as Store Street until it was renamed in 1842. Three of our stops sit on or a few steps off it.
-
Martello AlleyA narrow art alley off Princess Street, hung with work by local artists around a small courtyard. We pass the entrance on the walk down toward the water.
-
Kingston Public MarketBehind City Hall, the oldest continuously running public market in Ontario, trading Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. We walk through the square, and on market days guests see the producers supplying kitchens on this route.
-
Kingston City HallA National Historic Site dating to 1844, and one of the most photographed buildings in the city. It faces the harbour a block from our final stop.
-
Confederation ParkAcross from City Hall, with the visitor centre, the Engine 1095 locomotive and views over the marina. Where the tour ends.
- The working harbour at the foot of Princess Street. Shoal Tower is one of four Martello towers built by the British between 1810 and 1847, and it sits offshore from where we finish. (pass by)
