Private city tour of Bucharest
Overview
In this tour you will enjoy a few pleasant hours in the Romanian capital. Bucharest is an animated and modern city but you will also discover the powerful influences of the old days.
Your tour will start with pick-up at your hotel at 10:00 AM. In the first part of the day, you will have a guided walk through University Square and Unirii Square where you will find out more about the recent history of Bucharest. Then you will visit the Palace of the Parliament, the largest building in Europe, currently hosting the Romanian Parliament.
The guided tour will continue with discovering Bucharest's Victoriei Avenue. It is one of the city's most important streets, almost 3 kilometers long. The street was first known as Podul Mogosoaiei and gained its current name after the victory of the War of Independence in 1878. The avenue is one of the oldest streets in Bucharest and reveals the beauty of the pre-communist city, when it was called the "Little Paris".
You will then head to some of the most remarkable landmarks in the area, such as Piata Presei Libere, Victory Square, Univeristatii Square and Revolution Square. Revolution Square is an important location, because it is the place where democracy won over socialism and where Nicolae Ceausescu spent his lasts moments as a ruler.
Close by Revolution Square you can view the building of the National Museum of Art, a historic building dating back to the beginning of the 19th century, located inside of the former Royal Palace. The building has a royal past, it has been the residence of Princes Alexandru Ghica and Alexandru Ioan Cuza. Another impressive construction is the Romanian Athenaeum, home to the George Enescu Philharmonic Orchestra.
You will also have the chance to see Bucharest's Arch of Triumph, built between 1922 and 1936, to commemorate Romania's participation in World War I. The Arch of Triumph stands at the center of one of the busiest intersection in Bucharest.
