It was founded in the 4th century and is dedicated to St. Paul the Anchorite, one of the earliest Christian hermits who chose a life of solitude and prayer in the desert. The monastery is considered one of the oldest and most significant in Christian monastic history. Set in a remote desert valley, the monastery is surrounded by rugged mountains, creating a serene and spiritual atmosphere. Its architecture reflects ancient Coptic monastic design, with stone walls, small chapels, a church, and simple monks’ cells. Inside, visitors can see religious icons, manuscripts, and relics that have been preserved over centuries.
