Overview
This workshop is led directly by the owner of Craft Gallery SALUK, a skilled pewtersmith, so you’ll receive personal guidance throughout the process as you create your very own pewter sake cup.
Workshops are intentionally limited to a maximum of 4 guests per session, providing a relaxed and intimate atmosphere. Solo travelers, couples, and small groups are all welcome. No prior experience is needed; step-by-step instruction ensures that beginners can craft with confidence and enjoy the process.
During the workshop, you’ll also have the opportunity to take a look inside the pewter workshop—normally closed to the public—and gain a deeper appreciation for this traditional craft.
Your finished cup will be elegantly presented in a traditional paulownia wood box, making it a meaningful keepsake or memorable gift.
Join us and make a lasting memory with your very own handcrafted pewter sake cup.

This hands-on Kyoto workshop lets you create a one-of-a-kind pewter sake cup alongside the owner, a skilled pewtersmith.
Begin by using your preferred hammer to emboss a pattern onto a prepared pewter sheet. You can also optionally engrave letters, numbers, initials, or a date on the base at no extra charge.
Next, adjust the cup’s height with a file and chamfer the rim for a smooth, comfortable drinking experience. For safety, the final polishing with a rotary machine is handled by the pewter artisan.
During the workshop, you’ll also have the chance to peek inside the normally private workshop, gaining a closer look at traditional Japanese pewter craftsmanship.
The finished cup measures approximately 64 mm in diameter, 53 mm in height, and holds about 90 ml (up to 115 ml to the rim). It’s perfect for sake, whiskey, or chilled green tea.
